The Center for Health and Wellbeing

Seeking Applicants For Several Appointments As Postdoctoral Research Associates

The Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHW), part of the Woodrow Wilson School, invites outstanding researchers to apply for appointments as Postdoctoral Research Associates for the 2008-2009 academic year.

CHW supports research on the multiple aspects of health and wellbeing in both developed and developing countries. Applications are welcome from researchers in a variety of disciplines, including medicine, psychology, biology, epidemiology, economics, sociology, and related social science disciplines.

Postdoctoral Research Associates typically work closely with one or more CHW faculty members during their stay. In addition, they participate in activities of CHW, including faculty-graduate seminars, workshops, and public lectures, and enjoy access to a wide range of other activities throughout the University. Postdoctoral Research Associates devote the major portion of their time to research and writing on issues related to health and wellbeing. Some will also have the opportunity to teach in one of Princeton’s graduate or undergraduate programs.

Applicants should have received a doctorate or a professional post-graduate degree within three years of application. The program is open to all regardless of citizenship, but it does not support work toward the completion of a degree. The term of the appointment to Research Associate is one year with the possibility of up to two one-year extensions.

Postdoctoral Research Associates are defined as scholars who obtained their degrees within the past three years, and who will not be employed by another institution during their stay at Princeton. Applicants employed at other institutions who wish to visit should consult the CHW advertisement for Visiting Research Scholars. Those who are not employed at other institutions but who received their advanced degree more than three years ago should consult the CHW advertisement for Research Scholars.

Applicants are evaluated on the basis of (1) the quality of their achievements in their field of specialization and their ability to benefit from the activities of CHW; (2) the significance of their proposed contribution to CHW’s mission; and (3) the contribution they are likely to make to research in the future.

To apply, please submit the following:

  • A curriculum vitae.
  • A research paper, book chapter, or a dissertation chapter.
  • A statement of no more than 1,500 words describing how you plan to use your time at Princeton.
  • A letter of recommendation from a thesis advisor or other individual who is qualified to assess your work.

These materials should be submitted by mail to:
