Advanced Research in Social PolicyThis capstone course will be taken by students in their final year of the Joint Degree Program. Its purpose is to rejoin the interdisciplinary community that forms in the second year course, "Problems in Social Policy," at the end of the doctoral program for the purpose of contributing the main findings (or a particularly intriguing chapter) of the dissertation. This course will be offered in every year when there is a critical mass of students finishing up, presumably in the Spring term when the pressures of the job market are over. We will invite distinguished visitors in the student's dissertation area to join our class and celebrate the completion of the dissertation. "Younger" (meaning less senior) students in the JDP program across all fields will be invited (not required) to join the advanced seminar so that they can benefit from the research as well. The course will probably not meet weekly; it will depend on the number of people who are finishing up their degrees in any given year, but it will meet often enough for each Ph.D. student to have their moment. |
