Mina Cikara, is a fourth-year graduate student in the Department of Psychology. Broadly stated, she is interested in the relationship between stereotypes and people’s emotional reactions to distinct social groups. Her dissertation focuses on people’s perceptions of envied targets and neural networks related to the experience of envy and Schadenfreude, or pleasure at others’ misfortune. She is interested in examining the ways that envy perpetuates, even validates, inequality and discrimination against people and groups who are perceived as competing for limited resources (e.g., money, power, social influence) using behavioral and neuroimaging methodologies. Before coming to Princeton, Mina received her B.A. in psychology from Vassar College.
