HOW TO DECLARE YOUR MAJOR IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY FOR FALL 2009
In the spring of your sophomore year, during the April 6th – April 21st time frame, you should meet with the Department of Psychology’s Undergraduate Program Administrator, Tamara Thatcher. Please bring with you a hardcopy of your Internal Transcript (which you can print from SCORE), and two copies of a Course Enrollment Worksheet (which you can print from the Registrar’s website), filled out with the names of the courses that you’re interested in taking in the fall term. Tamara will review the courses you’ve already taken, discuss your fall courses, and outline for you the requirements for the psychology major. At the conclusion of the meeting, you will leave one copy of the Course Enrollment Worksheet with Tamara, and you will keep the second copy for your own use when selecting courses via SCORE. You can then choose your concentration on the Registrar’s website at http://registrar1.princeton.edu/ during the April 13th – 21st time frame.
NOTE: You will need to schedule your appointment with Tamara, in advance, via the Web Appointment Scheduling System, found here: https://wass.princeton.edu/pages/viewcalendar.page.php?makeapp=1&cal_id=554
Log into the Scheduling System using your Princeton NetID and password. You should then be brought directly to Tamara’s calendar of available appointments, at which point you can select a date & time that is most convenient for you. Each appointment is scheduled for 15 minutes.
Prerequisites for Entering the Psychology Department
Successful graded completion of Psychology 101: Introduction to Psychology and Psychology 251: Quantitative Methods by the end of the sophomore year. Students may fulfill the Quantitative Methods prerequisite by taking and passing (with a grade) a pre-approved course in another department (ORF 245, or ECO 202) or taking and passing a pre-approved course at another college or university prior to the beginning of the junior year, or by passing an equivalence examination that is administered by the department, by appointment.
Transfers and Late Concentrators
Students who submit late requests for admission to the Psychology Department, or who wish to transfer into the Department, will be accepted at the discretion of the Departmental Representative, if the Department can make adequate arrangements for supervision of junior and senior independent work.
